Griffith College Limerick, celebrating 20 years in the city centre has created a learning environment enriched in global learning and student support

Griffith College Limerick is celebrating 20 years as part of the city’s educational landscape, as it continues to grow as one of the country’s leading private higher education providers, adapting its courses to the demands of industry and innovation.
As part of Griffith College, Ireland’s largest private higher-level institution with more than 50 years of history, the Limerick City Centre campus boasts a student-centred approach in a dynamic and diverse learning environment at their city centre location base by the Crescent, O’Connell Avenue.
Eilish McCarthy, Programme Director, says the College has “set out a distinctive role for itself in Limerick as a bespoke higher education provider,” noting Griffith College is “moving all the time with the needs of industry.”
“ The campus itself has just been newly renovated, is centrally located, and it’s so vibrant,” said Eilish, “There are always people around. There is loads to do, and we have lots of collaboration with local businesses for our students as well, so there’s that partnership within the city.”
The College offers programmes from Level 6 to Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses designed with strong industry input.
Eilish said, “We have been providing courses from Level 6, the whole way up to postgraduate level, which is Level 9. We have a great understanding of industry – what the industry needs from our extensive research – and we are very proud of the programmes that we are providing here”.

“The postgraduate courses that we offer are Master’s of Science in Procurement and Supply Chain, and Sustainable Tourism, Hospitality Management, Edinburgh Business School Heriot Watt MBA, MSc in Cybersecurity, and Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Sustainable Engineering Management. These programmes are very industry-led and they are steered towards students who want to excel in their careers.”
Graduates from these programmes have gone on to build successful careers with companies such as Verizon, Baxter, and Edwards, while others have launched their own businesses.
Eilish describes how the programmes are tailored to Griffith College and are always adapting, she said, “ A lot of the programme directors here have been involved in the design and validation of our programmes, so they’re unique to us, and it has been recognised in its own right worldwide, producing graduates from all over the world.”
One of the benefits of being a smaller private third-level education provider is the care Griffith College can offer its students, says Eilish. She said, “ I think the most amazing thing that we offer students is the pastoral care and the support that we can offer the students. The fact that we are such a small college here in Limerick City allows us to support the students where it is needed, whether that is social, well-being, or whether that is academics.”
That care and connection with students goes beyond the time spent at Griffith College, Eilish said, “ I feel very proud of our learners and I feel very proud of Griffith College for what we are producing, I think that’s a lifetime bond that I have with my students, but I absolutely love it because that’s what makes my job worthwhile. So we have close connections with all of our students and some, in fact, return every induction to help out.”
