The Haven Hub and the Limerick Land Search Team held their Merry Christmas Charity Ball at the Greenhills hotel on Thursday, December 5 marking 5 years of the Haven Hub as well as a night of reflection, celebration, and community support.

The event not only marked the Haven Hub 5th anniversary, but also significantly celebrated the completion of its Mid West Mental Health Community Centre, a project the group has been working tirelessly on for almost two years.

Ahead of the event, Pat Doran, Chairperson of The Haven Hub, expressed the importance of the anniversary, noting the group were “incredibly proud to reach this 5-year milestone”.

Mr Doran said, “The Haven Hub has always been about offering a lifeline to those in need, and now, with the opening of our permanent home, we’ll be able to expand our reach and services to support even more people in the community. The Charity Ball is a celebration of our journey and an opportunity for everyone to contribute to the continued growth of essential mental health services in the Mid-West.”

The night was a spectacular event, offering a red carpet arrival to make guests feel like a star, a 4-course meal prepared by the talented chefs at Greenhills Family Hotel; live music by the fantastic 17Ten; an Ultimate 80s Disco with DJ Leon Andersen to dance the night away; and the there was also the chance to win amazing prizes in a raffle on the night.

The Haven Hub was also honoured with nominations at the Volunteer Ireland Awards this December

At €60 per tickets, every penny raised is going directly towards enhancing mental health services in Limerick and the wider Mid-West region. Billed as more than a night out, the event gave an opportunity for attendees to be part of something bigger, with organisers saying it will “help us complete our journey and continue offering vital support to those in need”

Leona O’Callaghan, Founder and Finance Director of The Haven Hub, shared her thoughts ahead of the event saying, “Our journey to this point replicates what life in general is like for most of us, full of challenges and obstacles. However, with hard work, a good support network and dedication we achieved so much and made it through the difficulties to get to this exciting point.”

The Haven Hub Founder noted although the group has reached this incredible milestone of having their permanent base which will be a major asset to the group and the community, she reflected, “Our biggest assets remain to be the awesome volunteers we are lucky enough to have at the other side of the door when a vulnerable person knocks.”

The Haven Hub is not doing this alone and is honoured to have the support of the Limerick Land Search Team, who will also be based at the new centre, providing critical recovery efforts in the area and Calvin Prendergast, Chairperson of the Limerick Land Search Team said, “The Mid West Mental Health Community Centre will be a place of hope and support, and we’re proud to be a part of that journey.”

The Haven Hub was also honoured with nominations at the Volunteer Ireland Awards which took place on Sunday, December 8; Volunteer Ireland is the national organisation that promotes, supports and advocates for volunteering in Ireland.

Since 2019, Haven Hub has been running a wide variety of programmes to help support the mental health of Limerick. They have done more than 780 interventions with people, many of whom were in crisis. They also have supports for people not in crisis like walking groups, meditation, a youth group and a group focused on recovery from trauma. All of their courses are free so that cost isn’t a barrier to a person’s wellbeing. If you need support you can contact Haven Hub here.
