The Haven Hub is organising a Haven Hub Walk Challenge of 388 miles, one mile for each member that participated in a report they conducted, to show that they hear their voice.

The Haven Hub Walk event is taking place from February 7 to March 21. Participants are encouraged to use different forms of movements such as running, walking, skateboarding or kitesurfing to make up the 388 miles within the 52 days of the challenge.

“We too call for change and walk beside you on your journey in the search for adequate mental health supports,” The Haven Hub said of their challenge.

The Haven Hub conducted a report in 2020 looking at how people in Limerick were treated during a mental health crisis.

The report was an independent inquiry into the treatment of people at risk of suicide in the Midwest area.

The decision to conduct a report was made based on the Haven Hub’s experience with services, as a suicide prevention organisation themselves.

The report showed results that were alarming, and the general message was that a massive change is needed to provide proper services.

Statistics gathered in the report show that an independent inquiry into the treatment of people at the risk of suicide in the Mid-West is vital. The Haven Hub cannot achieve this alone and ask the public for their support.

Since 2019, the Haven Hub Suicide Prevention Organisation has delivered 136 interventions.

Recently, the group called for a joint space for Suicide Support and Prevention teams in the city to operate from.

They wrote to all councillors appealing for their support in the call for a vacant building to be made available.

The Haven Hub directors believe Limerick desperately needs voluntary organizations to have a collaborated approach in the fight against suicide.

The Haven Hub provides a vital out-of-hours service to support people in distress. Their services are free of charge.
