Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk 2016  – Hundreds of walkers once again turned out in damp weather. Picture above by Keith Wiseman.

There was heaps of support spilling into the streets of Killaloe on Sunday last at the seventh annual Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk at The Lakeside Hotel Killaloe for Action Breast Cancer. The crowds came together to support the worthy cause, some people adding a touch of green over their pink outfits to support the boys in green in Lyon after the walk.

The weather didn’t work out in the favour of the walk but that didn’t stop hundreds of walkers arriving to The Lakeside Hotel Killaloe to do the walk. The damp weather conditions didn’t stop the excitement watching the match as the Lakeside Hotel Killaloe supplied green screens to view the match inside and outside. The electric atmosphere spun into overdrive when Ireland scored their first goal after 2 minutes into the match!

Funds raised by Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walks have helped with the implementation of the Daffodil Centre in Limerick, which was recently opened providing vital information and support for cancer sufferers and their families in the Mid West.

The Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk is just one of 4 Pink Ribbon Walks that happen in Ireland each year, other walks take place in Kells, Co Meath, Kenmare, Co Kerry and Kinsale Co. Cork. And since the first Pink Ribbon Walk took place in 2009 over 1,300,000 has been raised. An incredible achievement for such a worthy cause.

Statistics show that one in 10 Irish Women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and with the support of Pink Ribbon Walks, we can ensure that no woman has to embark on her breast cancer journey alone.

Ireland BreastCheck invites eligible women for their free mammogram every two years. For anyone that wants to go for a breast check there is a mobile screening unit located in the grounds of St Joseph’s Hospital, Mulgrave Street, Limerick.
