This is an open invitation for a Garden Designer to design the new space for the Hunt Museum in the Garden in collaboration with them and the community.

The prize for the winning designer is the full cost of delivering the garden, including design fees.

The Hunt Museum has been housed in the 18th century Palladian Georgian Custom House in Limerick City since February 1997.

The museum exhibits one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century. Generously donated by John and Gertrude Hunt to the people of Ireland.

They will place some large scale replicated museum objects in a newly designed, open garden.

The Garden needs to be easily maintained and accessible to all, designed with the community’s ideas and thoughts in mind.

You will need to find space for the Museum in the Garden, to include our Garden Chess Set & 4 or 5 sculptures of museum objects.

About the Hunt Museum:

The Hunt Museum preserves and exhibits the original artefacts gathered, over a lifetime, by John and Gertrude Hunt.  It is one of the greatest private collections in Ireland, with objects dating from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century.

Generously donated by John and Gertrude Hunt to the people of Ireland, this diverse collection is now housed in Limerick’s 18th Century Palladian-style building, formerly The Custom House.

The Museum also displays its own collections, as well as visiting exhibitions of Local, National and International significance with the overall aim of maximising their cultural and educational potential for the people of Limerick and Ireland.

It has an extensive education programme covering primary, post-primary, transition year and tertiary education in the region.

Working collaboratively with the region’s universities, cultural heritage organisations and the local communities the Hunt Museum delivers programmes and activities of benefit to all.

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
