Huge excitement as Limerick triumph in the hurling semi final

There has been immense excitement across the county after Limerick defeated Cork on Sunday in Croke Park in the hurling semi final to secure a place in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final for the first time in 11 years.

The closing minutes of the first half saw Cork ahead of Limerick by two points until the last minute goal from Cian Lynch who had the final say when he buried the sliotar into the back of the net.

The second half saw the Cork side start back with a force unseen in the match up to that point and looked as if they would be heading to Croke Park again for the final but the team began to lose fatigue in the final ten minutes as Limerick’s substitutes bread a new life into the game.

The Cork rebel’s fatigue got the best of them as Limerick surged ahead in the second half of extra time, securing a place in the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park on August 19.

Limerick trailed by six points with less than 10-minutes to play in normal time but John Kiely’s boys in green made a Lazarus style performance in the closing minutes of the match to draw in normal time and go on winning 3-32 to 2-31 in extra time.

The excitement across the county knows no end after the game yesterday with Cllr Daniel Butler, Metropolitan Mayor of Limerick, proposing that a big screen is constructed on All-Ireland final day in the city centre.

This wouldn’t be the first time a big screen has been erected in the city centre as seen before during major sporting events to do with Limerick.

The boys in green have shown a force to be reckoned with all season long and will take on either Clare or Galway which will, either way, be a cracking match-up in the All-Ireland Hurling Final in Croke Park on August 19, 2018.
