The Hunt Museum presents the work of internationally acclaimed Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama as part of its OUR: Conversations with the Collection summer exhibition
The Hunt Museum is proud to present the work of internationally acclaimed Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama as part of its summer exhibition, OUR: Conversations with the Collection.
Recently named No. 1 in ArtReview’s 2025 Power 100, the annual ranking of the world’s most influential figures in contemporary art, Mahama is recognised globally for creating powerful works that explore labour, trade, migration, history and the legacies of colonialism. Beyond his artistic practice, he has established cultural institutions in Ghana that support artists, educate young people and demonstrate the transformative power of culture.
Visitors to The Hunt Museum have the opportunity to experience Mahama’s work within OUR: Conversations with the Collection, an exhibition that explores how contemporary art can deepen our understanding of historical objects through dynamic dialogues across cultures and time.

Mahama presents a striking installation of small metal headpans—objects commonly used throughout West Africa for carrying goods, water and other everyday materials. Displayed alongside an Apulian red-figured Lebes Gamikos from 4th-century BC Greece, depicting a woman carrying a similar pan-shaped vessel, the installation highlights how ordinary objects can carry enduring stories of labour, identity and human experience across centuries and cultures.
Running until 20 September 2026, OUR: Conversations with the Collection brings together works by contemporary artists including Ibrahim Mahama, Cecilia Bullo, Guggi, Eithne Jordan and Sonja Landweer, alongside works from The Hunt Museum Collection by Henry Moore, William Scott and Giorgio Morandi. Together, they invite visitors to explore themes of memory, ritual, craftsmanship, transformation and human connection.
Presented alongside OUR is Our, Óir, Ore: Four Millennia of Silver and Gold, an exhibition celebrating the rich history of silver and gold craftsmanship in Limerick and the wider Shannon region.
As Mahama’s international influence continues to grow, his inclusion in OUR: Conversations with the Collection offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the work of one of the world’s leading contemporary artists within one of Ireland’s most significant museum collections.
OUR: Conversations with the Collection runs up to September 20, 2026, alongside Our, Óir, Ore: Four Millennia of Silver and Gold at The Hunt Museum, Limerick.
