Limerick Strand Hotel was delighted to be chosen as host venue for the 2023 Irish Hotel’s Federation Mid-West Tourism Ball which took place on Monday, April 17th.

The tourism fundraising ball has not taken place since 2019, due to Covid-19 so it was an extra special evening for all attendees. The mid-west branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) has hosted this Gala Dinner since 2013 with the key aim of raising funds for local tourism initiatives in the region.

“We are thrilled to have the Mid-West Tourism Ball back at The Limerick Strand, and to welcome our regional colleagues to enjoy an evening of gracious hospitality and fun.  I was honoured to present the coveted Recognition Award to Philip Smyth and Kate O’ Connell from the Shannon College of Hotel Management as they recently retired,” said Stephen O’Connor, General Manager, The Limerick Strand.

The ball took in the magnificent Shannon Suite with over 300 guests enjoying the fun-filled evening with MC extraordinaire James Sexton.  Dignitaries attending included Minister Kieran O Donnell, Richard O Donoghue TD, Senator Maria Byrne, Mayor Of Limerick Francis Foley and Mayor Of Clare Tony O Brien.

With an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients, talented Executive Chef Patrick Anslow and his culinary team served award-winning Irish and International cuisine, using locally sourced produce where possible and trace all the food. The team was proudly supported by the hospitality students from LCETB’s Hospitality Education & Training Centre who assisted on the night and were responsible for creating the starter course and dishes served by the students.

The Black-Tie event raises funds to help support events that drive visitors to the region, with monies raised from previous years supporting various tourism initiatives over the years.
