Munster Wheelchair Hurling Camogie Club enter Round 2 of the Martin Donnelly Interprovincials

Interprovincial Wheelchair Hurling Camogie League Round 2 where teams from each of the provinces will go head to head again in Tailteann Hall, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick starting at 10am.

Saturday, June 28, will see the 2025 Martin Donnelly Interprovincial Wheelchair Hurling Camogie League Round 2 come to Limerick’s Mary Immaculate College

This Saturday sees Round 2 of the Martin Donnelly Interprovincial Wheelchair Hurling Camogie League take place in Limerick, hosted by Munster Wheelchair Hurling Camogie Club in conjunction with Munster GAA.

Teams from each of the provinces will go head to head again in Tailteann Hall, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick starting at 10am.

Munster Wheelchair Hurling Camogie Club has been in existence for fifteen years and has grown from strength to strength.  Back in 2010 with little to no equipment and utilizing the generosity of the Spina Bifida Association in Limerick, a few highly motivated players came together and under the guidance of Dave Fitzgerald, the Treaty Warriors was formed and they have not looked back since.

In early 2011, the first Wheelchair Hurling Blitz hosted by the Treaty Warriors took place.  Not to be deterred by low numbers and a limited opposition, the game of Wheelchair Hurling/Camogie garnered some national attention and within the next three years, there would be four Provincial teams for Wheelchair Hurling across the country.

While the values of the game are inclusion, participation and enjoyment, the fact that there is now a League Title and an All-Ireland Title to be won each year has meant that this sport has grown year on year and developed into one of the most competitive Wheelchair Sports currently being played in the country.

Fast forward 15 years and Treaty Warriors has now grown into Munster Wheelchair Hurling Camogie Club, with their base in the Millennium Centre in Caherconlish, Limerick and with a Senior Panel of fourteen players, captained by Maurice Noonan and a Junior Panel of twenty-three players, captained by Jack Houlihan, the club now has players from each of the counties in Munster.

With the continued support of Munster GAA and unwavering support from the Limerick County Board in particular, the biggest achievement for the Club came with the growth and development of the Junior Panel.  This Saturday, the Junior Panel will again play for the “Sean Fitzgerald Memorial Trophy”, and to their credit, they have won it every single year since the Junior Tournament began.

In both 2023 and 2024, the progression of two players from the Junior Panel up to Senior ranks, is testament to the work that is being done by this Club to ensure that the future of this game within the province is strong.  The Club has over the last number of years, invited local teams in to play challenge games against both panels and these games have proven to be hugely popular with Clubs and players alike.

Munster Wheelchair Hurling Camogie Club continue to be the standard bearers for progression within the sport.  A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes with a 7-person strong committee, each with a vested interest in the continued success of the Club.  Without their continued support of players and families, the Club would not be where it is today.

This is a free, open invitation event and everyone is welcome. This is our national sport like you have never seen it before.
