A proposed 20-week course funded by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board as a joint initiative with Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick is looking for budding filmmakers to show an expression of interest.

The Introduction to Creative Producing Course aims to develop the next generation of creative producers in the region and will be led by Oscar-winning producer John McDonnell whose credits include ‘Vivarium’ starring Jesse Eisenberg and Irish language film ‘Arracht’

Participants will gain hands-on knowledge in key production areas, such as script editing, budgeting, scheduling, funding, legal frameworks, and distribution. The course also includes practical insights into pitching projects and preparing for financing.

John McDonnell is one of Ireland’s most experienced producers and is the founder of Fantastic Films, through which McDonnell has produced and collaborated on a diverse range of film projects, receiving over 60 international awards, including an Oscar in 2006 for the Martin McDonagh short film, ‘Six Shooter’.

The course is delivered part-time online on weekday evenings, with some weekend workshops, and will give you an introduction to the script-to-screen process.

Alanna MacNamee, Producer said they had an incredible experience on the course “from start to finish”.

Alanna said, “The producing course was a brilliant experience from start to finish. I learned lots of hands-on, practical skills and information that I constantly use in my day-to-day work as a producer. The teaching is engaging and focused, and it’s a great opportunity to form a lasting and supportive professional network.”

The start date of the course is yet to be confirmed, but with just 15 spaces available on the course, applicants are advised to express their interest early, the 15 participants will be selected on the quality of their application, CVs and short online interview.
