On Thursday, July 12, 2018, the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau traveled to the Midlands in the UK for an ‘Ireland meets the Midlands’ workshop to promote the Shannon region as a destination for international conferences, meetings and events at the Stapleford Park Country House in Leicestershire, England.

35 top UK Buyers from all over the UK Midlands enjoyed a taste of Ireland at the workshop last week which was organised by Meet In Ireland GB, the Business Tourism unit of Tourism Ireland in the Great British market.

Karen Brosnahan, General Manager of the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau, said: “The UK market is key for our region, with so much UK access into Shannon Airport on a weekly basis. We were delighted with the response from the buyers to our offering.”

The ‘Ireland Meets The Midlands’ workshop was a success for the Shannon Region as the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau attracted considerable interest from 35 major U.K buyers from the Midlands region in England.

There was a lot of interest in the newly reopened Adare Manor. “The fact that it has re-opened as a world-class venue was widely welcomed by the agents. We have a very comprehensive and varied offering in the Shannon Region, with four five-star hotels and many excellent four-stars.” Karen continued.

Joyce McElroy of Tourism Ireland said: “Interest in Ireland as a business destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) continues to grow – particularly in the GB market. It’s vital we have representation from all regions of Ireland at key events like this as a showcase of all of Ireland for all we have to offer.”

The Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau are celebrating 15 years in business this year. The Shannon Bureau promotes the Shannon Region as a location for business and sports tourism and offers an entirely free service to event organisers and local ambassadors to help increase the Clare and Limerick regions share of the lucrative international business and sports tourism market. Hundreds of ambassadors have been actively working with the Bureau in recent years to help attract thousands of people to the region through a range of business and sports events. In 2017 it supported business and sports events worth in excess of €7,000,000 to the economy of the region, a substantial slice of the national Business & Events Tourism cake.   The bureau works in partnership with Meet in Ireland in all its activities.
