Irene Hehir announced as Treaty United WU19’s manager

Irene Hehir played most of her career with Lifford Ladies Soccer Club in Ennis, winning numerous League, Cup and National Titles at all age groups and scored 4 goals during her spell with the Irish U20 side.

Treaty United announce former Irish U20 international and World Cup bronze medal winner, Irene Hehir, is to rejoin the club as manager of the WU19’s team

With all the excitement around the start of season for the Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s and Academy teams, one Treaty United appointment slipped under the radar. The club were delighted to have former Irish U20 international and World Cup bronze medal winner, Irene Hehir, rejoin the club as manager of the WU19’s team.

Irene played most of her career with Lifford Ladies Soccer Club in Ennis, winning numerous League, Cup and National Titles at all age groups and scored 4 goals during her spell with the Irish U20 side.

Irene began her coaching career as a 16 year old looking after the young girls at Lifford and gradually became more involved over the years coaching at club, county Emerging Talent Program, FAI Centre of Excellence and then with the FAI WU17 with James Scott from 2019.

She has previously worked in the League of Ireland with Limerick FC as WU17 Head Coach and also with Treaty United in their first year in the League Of Ireland Academy as WU17 Coach. Irene is currently involved with the FAI U15 Girls National Academy and last year was assistant coach to the Irish Women’s Cerebral Palsy Squad who claimed Bronze at the Women’s World Cup.

Irene currently hold a UEFA A Licence and this year will be a candidate on the 2025 UEFA Elite A Licence with FAI Coach Education. In her professional career, she works with Southill Outreach as a keyworker and has just completed her degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy and looks forward to starting a masters in Sport Psychology later this year.

With such an extensive playing, coaching and educational background, it’s very clear that Treaty United’s WU19 squad are in great hands.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
