2025 marks a major milestone for the Limerick-based Irish Aerial Creation Centre (IACC) as the group celebrates ten years of unique creativity in Limerick and as Ireland’s first purpose-fitted space for aerial dance.

Known for the home of its founders, internationally renowned Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company, the IACC has grown to a hub of creativity and community by giving people a place to unlock their creativity, and it is a centre of excellence for the creation and education of aerial arts. IACC offers classes in aerial, which is a unique way for individuals, communities and businesses, both local and national, to discover talents they didn’t know they had and develop new skills and abilities they never thought they could achieve.

To start their birthday celebrations, IACC has launched a new booking system ahead of its autumn term, beginning Monday, September 1. Classes cater for children, teenagers, and adults, introducing participants to skills such as silks, trapeze, hoop, and vertical dance. For younger students, aerial classes build strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence, while fostering creativity through choreography and performance.

Children’s classes are divided into age groups, with ‘Sparrows’ for ages 4–7 years, €52 for four weeks, ‘Hawks’  for 8–12 years, €64 for four weeks, and ‘Eagles’ for 13–17 years, €64 for four weeks. IACC also offers acrobatics classes for children aged 7+, which are also available at €12 per session.

Chantal McCormick of the IACC said, “With the aerial classes for children, we teach them a variety of skills, like silks, trapeze, hoop and vertical dance. Aerial is a great way for kids to get stronger and maintain their flexibility, and work on life skills like hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and memorising movements.

“As children get more experienced, we start to incorporate creativity into their classes, allowing them to express themselves through aerial dance and choreograph their own performances. Aerial dance has similarities to gymnastics in terms of physical movement, but we foster a supportive and non-competitive environment without examinations or certificates.”

The IACC equally encourages adults to take a leap into their classes, ranging from ‘Explorers’ for beginners, ‘Improvers’ for those who have “caught the aerial bug”, and ‘Skilled’ classes for advanced levels aimed at those training for more than three years. Sessions last 90 minutes weekly and offer a unique alternative to the gym.

Beyond weekly classes, IACC hosts birthday parties, family circus events, school workshops, seasonal camps, and an annual summer show. Professional development is also central to its mission, supported by the Arts Council, with residencies, workshops, and performance opportunities available for emerging and established aerialists. Notably, IACC houses Ireland’s first intensive professional programme for aerial artists and partners with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance to deliver the country’s only third-level aerial dance courses.

For those who have always wanted to give aerial dance a try, or are looking for an interesting alternative to the gym to help keep fit, IACC may be the place for you. More information is available on the IACC website.
