DJ’s Celebrate 20 Years of House Music in aid of Irish Autism Action

Well-known Limerick DJ’s Niall Colgan and John O’Loughlin are set to celebrate 20 years of fine house music in aid of Irish Autism Action.

The event will take place in The Orchard Bar, Limerick on Saturday August 29 and a fantastic night is in store with a look back on 20 years of dance and house music.

Not only a celebration of amazing music but this event has been organised to raise much needed funds and awareness for  Irish Autism Action.

One of the DJ’s John O Loughlin says that the event came about almost as a reunion of two friends who realised it had been 20 years since they begin DJing together, he said: “I rang Niall a couple of months ago saying that it was 20 years ago this summer since we started DJing together. I thought we might get our families together and have a barbeque and it grew from that. We have been collecting music for the last 20 years so why dont we just put a set together and see if we can get the old crew back together because it would be nice to meet some people and have people meeting each other.

John added: “We were looking for venues and we thought that the Orchard would be perfect for it because it is open and we could have a barbeque if the weather is nice, it will be outdoors with a nice summery vibe to it.”

There is a sentimental sense of rekindling an old flame attached to this event according to John: “When we were DJing all those years ago it was the crowd that came to the club that made it, it was never really about us it was about the people who came every Saturday night and there was a sense of community. We had something very special in the club and everybody hung around together as a family and we want to see if we can get that back just for one night. We are all getting older and we all have families so it’s not as easy for people to get out anymore so we want to make it worthwhile for those who can make it.”

The event is in aid of Irish Autism Action, which is a young dynamic, innovative and passionate organisation formed in 2001, bringing positive change into the lives of those affected by autism. The range of services that Irish Autism Action provides includes awareness raising, early detection diagnosis, education support, advocacy, counselling, helpline, home based support, transition planning, social housing, research information and advice for families upon receiving diagnosis.

Irish Autism Action is an umbrella organisation with over 40 member groups and also individual members. Our members range from the 13 Special Schools for Children with Autism to local support groups and are located in practically every county in Ireland. IAA have set up Ireland’s first National Diagnostic and Assessment Centre known as Solas which is based in Dublin. In April 2009 they launched their National Autism Helpline, which is operated by parents. It is Ireland’s first autism helpline, which provides impartial and confidential information, advice and support for people with an autistic spectrum disorder, their families and professionals.
