Mayor Sean Lynch hosts coffee morning in aid of Irish Cancer Society

Mayor of Metropolitan District Cllr Sean Lynch hosted the first coffee morning at City Hall, Merchants Quay in aid of the Irish Cancer Society on Friday October 20.

The coffee morning raised a total of €416 for the Irish Cancer Society with lots of delicious treats on offer. Mayor Sean Lynch spoke to ilovelimerick about the coffee morning “It was a wet and miserable morning, but we had a great turnout for the event and it was a great success. I would just like to thank everyone who came along and supported the event and such a worthy cause.

The Irish Cancer Society is a national charity dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem, and improving the lives of those living with cancer. Cancer incidence is on the rise. By 2020, 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. The Irish Cancer Society is working to stop this. By investing in cancer research and providing care and support to people affected by cancer, the Irish Cancer Society is stopping cancer in its tracks. Through research they are finding out more and more about how to diagnose, treat and how to stop cancer before its starts. By providing information, advice and support they are supporting people through their cancer experience and helping to reduce the fear of a cancer diagnosis
Mayor Sean Lynch hopes to continue the fundraising coffee mornings with another one taking place next month in aid of the homeless charity NOVAS.
NOVAS is a voluntary organisation and Approved Housing Body working with families and single adults who are disadvantaged and socially excluded; primarily those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. They provide a range of services and accommodation for marginalised households throughout Ireland. They offer bespoke, client-centred services, based on empirical evidence of fifteen years’ experience of working with people who are homeless in Ireland. NOVAS believe everyone is entitled to a home.
In 2002, Novas established its first service in Ireland – a temporary supported, low-threshold accommodation service in Limerick. Since then they have grown significantly with more than 20 services in counties Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Dublin, Cork and Kerry. They support their clients through Housing, Health and Recovery. NOVAS recognise the complex issues that cause homelessness and endeavour to offer holistic, long-term solutions.
