In an effort to create a modest fund to support promoting the Mid-West Region initiatives, the Shannon Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation held the Irish Hotels Federation Mid West Tourism Ball 2016 on Monday, 24 October at the Strand Hotel Limerick. The night included a Drinks Reception, Sumptuous 5 Course Gala Dinner and Musical Entertainment along with some fabulous Spot Prizes as well as awards on the evening.
Margaret O’Shaughnessy, Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, was awarded a lifetime achievement award on the evening for her work in the tourism sector. Miss O’Shaughnessy’s work included that at the aforementioned Foynes Flying Boat Museum which was founded by her almost 30 years ago. On the evening Margaret was described by attendees as an ‘incredible ambassador’ and a ‘dynamo’ for tourism in the Mid-West Region.
Foynes Aviation and Maritime Museum is a not-for-profit charitable institution dedicated to preserving and telling the story of the pioneering days of aviation and passenger travel across the north Atlantic; the story of the creation of Irish coffee, and the rich maritime history of the River Shannon and the port of Foynes.
The group maintains emerging opportunities which will undoubtedly result in increased visitor numbers to the region if they are in a position to financially support the various initiatives that will emerge from increased visitors. In particular, the industry views the independence of Shannon Airport as having considerable potential and aim to work closely with the airport to maximise that opportunity.
The Irish hotel Federation were grateful to Sean Lally of the Strand Hotel, who kindly agreed to provide the dinner ‘at cost’, allowing the group to offer a Table of 10 persons for just €500.
In addition, we will do all we can to publicly acknowledge your support on the night. We are confident that with your support, the evening will also offer some networking opportunities for suppliers to the Hotel & Tourism sector of the region.
