Irish premiere of the Erasmus Documentary Citizen Europe May 21

The International Education Division and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick are hosting the Irish Premiere of the Erasmus+ Documentary Citizen Europe. The documentary captures the lives of five Erasmus participants who work, study or volunteer across Europe, from France, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria and Ethiopia to Lithuania, Finland, Greece and Ireland.

The film’s characters come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and leave the comfort zone of their countries for the first time, to prove to themselves that they can survive in a new environment. From France, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria and Ethiopia to Lithuania, Finland, Greece and Ireland, they need to overcome their fears and adapt to different cultures and mentalities.

The experience of these young characters is juxtaposed with the memories of the first Europeans to take part in Erasmus. Sharing old photos and films, they recall what Europe was like and how the experience changed who they have become. Set against the current European backdrop, fueled by unprecedented youth unemployment, uncertainties around the refugee crisis, and Brexit, their journeys offer a bird’s-eye view of a continent in transition and a ground-level understanding of the many faces of Europe.
