Irish Youth Choir performs its 2018 Summer Programme Psalmody at St. Mary’s Cathedral
The Irish Youth Choir performs its 2018 Summer Programme Psalmody, with inspirational choral music from ancient texts, under Conductor, Greg Beardsell at 8 pm on Friday 6th July 2018 in the beautiful St. Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick.
Greg Beardsell, Artistic Director of the choir said ‘“I’m delighted to be conducting the Irish Youth Choir in this concert of beautiful settings of ancient texts. Drawing primarily from the Old Testament, we combine settings by the great masters of Mendelssohn, Britten and Bruckner with those of contemporary composers Celia McDowall, Siobhán Cleary and Kerry Andrew”.’
The Irish Youth Choir is the only dedicated national youth choir that offers training opportunities for young singers from all over Ireland. It was set up as a choir in the year 1982. The Irish Youth Choir meets annually for a main intensive rehearsal course during the summer months under the expert tuition of the Artistic Director, Greg Beardsell, and a team of tutors and vocal coaches. The week culminates in a number of performances by the choir.
Some of the previous descriptions about IYC concerts include ‘glorious choral sound’, ‘always a pleasure to listen to’, ‘a vindication of the choir’s musical aims and methods’, ‘what they achieve in one week is impressive, a collective sound that is magical.’
