The Irish Youth Guitar Orchestra is made up of teenagers from all different ages from 13 to 23 years old and are all volunteers to play in the group. John O’Shea is originally from Limerick. He did a masters in America and came back to direct the Irish Youth Guitar Orchestra.
The concert will be conducted by David Brophy. David Brophy was the man behind High Hopes, Ireland’s first choir for homeless people. RTE broadcasted about the choir for two weeks in 2014.
Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is a Grammy Award winning American ensemble formed in 1980. They are known for using nylon string guitars to imitate a variety of instruments and effects. It’s especially exciting for them to be coming to Limerick because they haven’t toured in Ireland for a couple of years.
Also joining these amazing acts will be the Dublin Guitar Quartet, they’re not your standard guitar ensemble. Described as a “quartet with a difference” by the Irish Times, the Dublin Guitar Quartet is the first classical guitar quartet entirely devoted to new music. They earn their title of an original catalogue of arrangements from using 8 and 11 string guitars. Expect a dynamic, entertaining, and completely novel concert experience with this group.
This concert will not be one to miss as there will be a wonderful display of different guitar skills from all ages.
