Iron Miles Run Club launches for runners of all levels
Iron Miles Run Club launches at University of Limerick open to everyone as they aim to “forge on more”
Iron Miles Run Club, a new run club where everyone is welcome, launches at University of Limerick

A new community-driven run club has arrived in Limerick. Iron Miles Run Club meets every Saturday at 10 am at the Living Bridge, University of Limerick, and is open to runners of every level — from complete beginners to seasoned racers.
Iron Miles is the creation of Andrew McNamara, a Limerick personal trainer and endurance athlete with over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry.
Andrew coaches at Planet Health Club and has completed multiple ultra marathons and two Ironman 70.3 triathlons, in Italy and Mallorca. But Iron Miles didn’t start as a business plan — it started as an idea built around his own training and his own story.
“For a long time, Iron Miles was just an idea in my head,” says Andrew. “It was built around my own training and the belief that people are capable of more than they think. Seeing it become a real community, with real people showing up on a Saturday morning, means everything to me.”
The club’s mantra, “Forge One More,” was born at the 45-kilometre mark of a 63-kilometre ultra marathon — the point where Andrew says the race stopped being physical and became a decision. “That phrase got me to the finish line. Now it’s what we’re building the whole community around. One more rep, one more mile, one more Saturday morning when it would be easier to stay in bed.”

Despite the name, Iron Miles Run Club is deliberately unintimidating. Runs are social-paced, nobody gets left behind, and every session finishes with coffee together at Chill The Beans on the Groody Road.
“The point isn’t pace or distance,” Andrew explains. “The point is to show up, run together, support each other, and leave feeling better than when you arrived. If you’re nervous about coming along to your first one, I promise you won’t be the only one. The nervous ones are exactly who this club is for.”
Iron Miles is co-founded by coach Tay Cooper, and the run club is just the beginning — the community has plans for coaching programmes and events later this year.
Iron Miles Run Club meets every Saturday at 10am at the Living Bridge, University of Limerick. It’s free, no sign-up needed — just turn up in your runners.
