The 12th Jacinta O Brien 10k run in association with the University of Limerick took place at the University of Limerick Sport’s Arena, on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 11.30am.

Each and every year the students and staff of the University of Limerick organise a 10k run in honour of their former co-worker and beloved friend, Jacinta O Brien.  Jacinta, who was a member of the Physical Education and Sport Sciences teaching department in the University of Limerick, was in her mid-forties at the time of her sudden and untimely death. In her honour, this 10k run raises funds for some very valuable charities. This year the organising team has chosen ‘Suicide Aware’ and ‘The Irish Heart Foundation’.

Suicide Aware is a voluntary organisation funded solely by donations from the public. The charity aims to combat and tackle mental health issues by creating public awareness campaigns and running educational workshops around mental health, depression and suicide. They also encourage those affected by                                                                  mental illnesses to access appropriate therapies.

The Irish Heart Foundation provides information on heart health to the public, media and support in managing heart disease, cancer and other medical conditions with regards to cardiovascular therapies.

This year is the 12th anniversary of Jacinta’s passing and so the committee are to make this year’s event bigger and better than any other year. Entry fee for the race costs €20. The race entry fee is halved for any student who brings along friend; €10 each. There will also be free t-shirts for the first 300 who register. Remember entries on the day are limited so get your runners on asap!

Run, skip or walk along to the UL Sport’s Arena, on Sunday, April 10, at 11.30am. The 12th Jacinta O Brien 10k Run is promised to be a great experience and remember all proceeds go directly to the two chosen charities.
