Bus Éireann‘s depot at Colbert Station was abuzz with excitement on Tuesday, December 17 when Jack O’Neill, a young Limerick boy with a fascination for buses was treated to a private tour and gifts on a special day at the station.

Jack’s fascination with buses started early, according to his father, Thomas who told I Love Limerick, “Since he was born we’d always be out walking and when he reached one he just started enjoying seeing the buses and he’d start waving at them, if they ever beeped or anything, he got really excited.”

Visiting the buses on his birthday in November became a tradition for the family, and the excitement of seeing the buses has become a full-blown passion for Jack and his dad with Jack becoming a TikTok sensation, Thomas said, “About nine months ago we just started going out doing videos for YouTube and stuff and then a few months ago, we started on TikTok and he’s blown up on TikTok.”

Dermot, a Bus Éireann representative told Richard Lynch of I Love Limerick that Jack’s enthusiasm “brightens the days of all our drivers”.

He said, “He brightens the days of all our drivers, all the drivers you’ve seen around town. As the name says, Jack loves the buses, so we thought it would be nice to just give him his own private tour of the bus and just give him the station himself for a while.”

Jack’s enthusiasm for buses doesn’t just brighten drivers’ days but with 7,000 + TikTok followers and more than 25,000 likes on his videos, it is safe to say his love for buses has brought joy to people farther than the local bus route. Bus Éireann’s thoughtful gesture helped celebrate Jack’s passion and truly highlighted the joy of the simple things in life.
