“Following months of Trojan work, creative fundraising and the amazing support of the Parishioners of Janesboro,  almost €40,000 has been raised in funding to see the parish church get a complete makeover. The painting of the church has begun and by early Spring we hope to see our church transformed,” said Sr. Delores Madigan, member of the Church Renovation Committee.

“The momentum is building even further as we prepare for our Janesboro Church Table Quiz Fundraiser which will take place in the Spotted Dog, on Thursday, November 30th at 88 pm It promises to be a great night of fun and many, many spot prizes.

“The support of our parishioners, along with local businesses and sponsors, we are absolutely thrilled with the generosity of the people. We still have a way to go, but now strongly believe we will get to our target of over €60,000’, said Sr. Delores.

“We also understand the financial pressures on people, especially at this time of year. All the more reason for the gratitude we feel and the appreciation to each and every person who has supported this worthy cause. Thank You.”

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Janesboro was completed and dedicated on December 15, 1942, by Dr. Keane, Bishop of Limerick. The altar rails were made of marble with a red cushion running the width of the church itself. The pulpit was used mainly by visiting missionaries when Parish retreats were held at least once a year. With the parish expanding year on year more space was necessary and a huge extension was completed in 1967. While the great character of the old church was lost the new one acquired a character all its own.
