 Friday, April 20, The founder and chief technology officer of WP Engine, Jason Cohen, visited Limerick Institute of Technology, Moylish Campus to meet with the next generation of tech leaders in Ireland.

The institute has maintained strong ties with the leading WordPress digital experience platform provider since it opened its Limerick office in September 2016. 

Since then LIT has actively engaged with the company, as with other industries across the Mid West, to ensure a two-way dialogue that leads to more industry informed course development and delivery. WP Engine also offers a scholarship at the third level college.

More than 90% of LIT’s IT graduates find employment within the Mid West Region, with most of this year’s Level 8 graduates already securing their first job in the sector locally.

On Friday, Paul Vesey, Head of Department of Information Technology welcomed Mr Cohen to LIT as he met with students and viewed the end of year work of the 120 soon to be LIT IT, graduates.

“It is encouraging for the students to meet with a leader in the industry as they prepare for their final exams. LIT & WP Engine operate in partnership to create long-term opportunities for both our graduates and their existing staff who wish to up-skill.  This fits with WP Engine’s commitment to its employees and to staff development, as well as LIT’s commitment to providing an educational framework that is both flexible and inclusive,” he said.

LIT President, Professor Vincent Cunnane added, “The economic growth in Limerick and the Mid West means that employment opportunities are continuing to increase as more companies like WP Engine find a strong and well-supported base here.

as the skills necessary for this constantly developing industry.”

With the promise of 100 jobs in Limerick by the end of 2019, the WP Engine Limerick Technical Support & Innovation Centre continues to expand, and there are ongoing opportunities for those interested in a career in tech.

Wishing the 120 final years LIT IT students well in their exams, Jason Cohen also addressed the student body in the campus Aula Maxima on Friday.
