The Jimmy C Make Up Academy was set up in 2015 and was the first makeup academy to be set up in Limerick. The academy is located on Steamboat Quay and is the perfect place for people to become comfortable with makeup, gain valuable makeup artistry skills and qualifications, and allow themselves to be creative while doing so.

Jimmy began his career as an account manager for Estée Lauder, before working with Mac Cosmetics, where he later joined the management team. Five years later, Jimmy became manager of an Inglot store and eventually in 2014, he started his career as a freelance makeup artist before setting up the Jimmy C Makeup Academy in 2015.

Jimmy tells ILoveLimerick that “setting up the academy was a natural progression for me. I was in the industry about 12 years before I decided to teach. I also saw that there was an open market there. At the time, there was no other makeup academy in Limerick.”

Being a Limerick man himself, Jimmy was eager to return to work in his hometown. “When I decided to leave the retail side of the industry, I knew I wanted to come back here to set up my academy. It had to be in Limerick, in my hometown.”

The academy offers fully accredited VTCT courses that are internationally recognised in over 100 countries worldwide. The courses offered include a Pro Make Up Artistry Advanced Course, a one-year Diploma in Makeup, a Teen MUA course which takes place each July, and the most popular course at the academy, the Bridal and Glam Make Up Course. Many of the courses are part-time, which makes them more accessible to people. The first full-time course begins in September.

As well as these amazing courses, there is also the chance to learn about makeup in one-to-one lessons. The academy also offers professional Make-up and Hair services for all occasions on an appointment basis. There really is something for everyone at the Jimmy C Makeup Academy.

Jimmy says ‘What really sets us apart is the way we treat the students. We speak to everyone at a level that they would want to be spoken to at. It makes it easier for students to learn”.

He continues “We do one-on-one lessons for people who want to learn how to do their own makeup, or somebody just starting out as a teen. We also do wedding parties, we work on brides and bridesmaids.”

The academy caters for anyone aged 16 or upwards, often catering for people aged up to 65 or older. It provides a place for people to learn from scratch, improve existing skills, take time for themselves and enjoy the learning process.
