Joanne McMahon Thanksgiving Fundraiser
Joanne McMahon Thanksgiving Fundraiser to take place on April 17.
Over 1500 people are expected to take part in Joanne McMahon Thanksgiving Fundraiser, which has already raised over €30,000. The Joanne Mcmahon thanksgiving fundraiser, in aid of the St James hospital Burns unit, takes place on Sunday 17 April 2016 from Castlemahon community hall. The fundraiser takes place in the form of a 90k/40k cycle, 10k run and 5k fun walk.
Joanne McMahon who was engulfed in flames while lighting a Bain-Marie on May 30, 2014 has since been campaigning to raise funds for the National Burns Unit in Dublin where she received life-saving treatment
Up to 300 volunteers are currently being recruited to ensure the event run smoothly. As the money continues to pour in, the people in homes and communities throughout West Limerick organise their own fund-raisers for Joanne, such as musical evenings, concerts, bingo nights and coffee mornings. Fundraisers have also been organised in Washington and Chicago, in Auckland, New Zealand and in the Australian cities of Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
However now the attention is all focusing very much on Sunday, April 17. The committee is now asking the 500 or so people who took out sponsorship cards to return them, if possible, ahead of April 17 or on the day itself.
Currently, over 550 people have registered online for the day’s events: a 90km, 80km, 40km or 10km cycle or 10km and 5km walk. Registration online is free and each person will get a confirmation email and number.
Everybody taking part must check in on the day itself at Castlemahon hall where there will be 20 signing in stations or where people can register. Voluntary contributions will be welcomed then.
