The Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton T.D, was joined by JP McManus and over 150 previous scholarship winners for the JP McManus Scholarship 20 year anniversary ceremony at Limerick Racecourse.

Established in 1997, the awards scheme provides third level education scholarships to high achieving students in Colaiste Mhichil, Limerick. To date, over 161 scholarships have been awarded to students attending the school. 115 previous winners have graduated with third level qualifications from colleges throughout the country. The scholarships are funded by JP McManus, a former pupil of the school.

Almost 500 guests attended the gala event, including Mayor of Limerick Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon and Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan. Special Guest for the evening was RTE GAA correspondent, Michael O’Muircheartaigh.

Eight students from the school were also presented with a 2016 scholarship from Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton T.D towards their third level education to the value of €6,750 per annum.

Congratulating the winning students, JP McManus said; “It has given me and my family great satisfaction to see the scholarship scheme evolve and be supportive to its recipients over the years. As we celebrate the 20th awarding of the scholarship I want to extend a welcome to the many previous winners who have joined us here tonight.

He added; “Tonight is very much about the scholarship winners and your achievements. Well done to each of you on realising your scholarship ambitions and I wish you continued success in your Third Level studies.”
