Limerick lady Julie Anne Dineen is a true inspiration. Julie Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and since that time she has turned darkness into light. A tireless fundraiser she had raised thousands of euro’s for the Symptomatic Breast Cancer Care Unit in the Mid-West Regional Hospital and raised awareness about the disease through numerous high profile projects.

She was nominated for Limerick Person of the Year 2009 when she recorded a cancer charity single ‘Do You Believe’ and zoomed to be top of the Irish charts. She recorded the song a day after her second course of chemotherapy, in a bid to show other women there is life after battling the disease.

As a member of local breast cancer survivor women’s group the Bosom Buddies she has left an indelible stamp on the lives of everyone person she meets and is supported by a group of truly inspirational women. The women are known for their numerous fashion show fundraisers and meet weekly for lunch and laughs. “The support of Limerick people has been phenomenal, this is a part of Limerick that the rest of Ireland never sees,” she tells me.

Despite re-occurrences of the disease Julie Anne, has battled on against the odds, driven by her unshakeable faith and her love for her two sons, Sean 12 and Matty who is 8. Julie Anne and her husband Dave have held numerous event fundraisers in aid of the cancer unit.

I sat down with Julie Anne for an intimate conversation about her life. Julie Anne is as real as you can get and her candid interview is not only moving but also genuinely inspirational.
