The Danish company had previously advertised its intention to apply for planning permission to open the last remaining unit at Ennis Retail Park, an optimistic sight for the people of Limerick with more employment on its way, with the retailer expected to have 10 full -time staff on average.

JYSK is a Danish retail chain which sells household goods such as mattresses, furniture and interior décor and is one of the largest Danish retailers operating internationally.

JYSK’s big selling point is its logo, which features a goose, for the firm has made a name for itself with its bedding buys; with covers and pillows which are said to be very comfortable costing from just €50 each.

The company seeks to rival IKEA in Ireland with plans to open 40 stores in its first three to five years of its operation.

At present, JYSK has nine stores in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Naas, Sligo, Drogheda, Dundalk, Waterford and Portlaoise, which remain closed in line with government regulations.

JYSK country manager for Ireland and the UK Roni Tuominen previously said, “We have always been committed to expanding in Ireland and we are reaching our target to open 15 new stores in our first two years here. We are very confident in the Irish market and in our customer’s love for JYSK. There is a great appetite for home furnishing products, perhaps now more than ever, with so many of us spending more and more time at home. We look forward to welcoming and meeting new customers in our new locations this year.”

Tuoiminen emphasised his goal for the branches in Ireland saying, “Our goal is to establish new Jysk locations in towns and cities all over Ireland, so we can contribute to the local economy, especially in smaller communities where our job creation will be extremely valuable.”
