Keating Connolly Sellors Raises €500 for Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick
This morning Keating Connolly Sellors Solicitors presented Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick with a cheque made up of funds they raised at a coffee morning in May. The firm raised €500 for the charity.
Volunteers working with Corbett Suicide Prevention have been patrolling the four bridges in Limerick City for over four years. Their main focus is to monitor the rivers and surrounding areas for members of the public who look distressed and who may be contemplating suicide at night. The group’s ambassador, Peter Clohessy was also in attendance to receive the cheque, unfortunately, fellow ambassador Keith Earls could not make it as he is in America at the moment.
Louraine Corbett, board director at Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick, said; “Corbett Suicide Prevention was formed by my late brother Trevor Corbett over seven years ago. When he passed away we reformed the group as we felt there was a need for us. The original five members have been there from day one and are still involved in running CSPL today. “
She continued: “We have had between 350 and 400 interventions since 2012 and we are still meeting people on a weekly basis. We have made a difference in reducing Limerick City suicide rates and will continue to do so with the help of donations like today.”
Keating Connolly Sellors is a leading full-service law firm with offices in Limerick and Dublin. Sellors was founded on 1st April 2015, however, the seeds of the firm were sown more than 150 years earlier by Limerick’s leading lawyers. During this time, the firms of Connolly Sellors Geraghty and Keating and Keogh crossed paths and formed partnerships.
Speaking at the cheque presentation to the Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick, Stephen Keogh, managing partner at Keating Connolly Sellors said; “The rate of suicide in Limerick is over double the national average, according to a recent HSE report. It is very important for the people and businesses of Limerick to rally together to help reduce this heart-breaking situation.”
“We are delighted to support Corbett Suicide Prevention Limerick and the fantastic work that the charity does for vulnerable people in Limerick. The group relies entirely on donations from the community to pay for training and kits for their volunteers. What is even more important than raising funds is raising awareness of the organisations and charities that are available to people in distress” he said.
