Limerick cyclists and runners have a chance to take to the moon and back in Kilkee in a major new fundraising cycle and run walk event. The inaugural Ian’s Trust Moon and Back fundraiser takes place in Kilkee on Saturday 10th August and will include 120km and 55km cycles with a 10km run and walk event also taking place. The Ian’s Trust registered charity was established in the memory of Ian ‘Bean’ Cusack of Clarina Co Limerick and provides financial support for families of children with Acquired Brain Injury.

Speaking at the announcement of the event Oorla Cusack explained the significance of the August event and the background to the charity. She outlined ‘we decided to establish the charity in the memory of our youngest son Ian and create an annual event that gives people the opportunity to take part in a special day that will help so many families. Currently in Ireland there is very limited support structures for children under 16 suffering from Acquired Brain Injury. We aim to provide some level of support to families and help improve the quality of life of their children’.

Oorla added ‘the inaugural Moon and Back event is of additional significance as August will mark the first anniversary of Ian ‘Bean’. We hope we can grow it annually and make a real difference to those families. The option of having different cycle routes or walking, running is so we can encourage as many people as possible to take part. The backdrop of Kilkee and Loop Head is the perfect setting and was one of Ian’s favourite places.’

Entry to the cycle event is €25 while the run and walk costs €20 to register. Each participant will receive a running technical t-shirt, refreshments on the routes and a Post event BBQ. Champion cyclist Nicloas Roche has donated a signed jersey that will be raffled among all participants. The event is sponsored by Blulift, BDO, Duggan Insurances and Limerick Motor Centre. .

The 120km and 55km cycles start at the Kilkee Bay Hotel at 12pm while the run / walk starts from the bandstand at the West End at 12pm also. Registration and sign on for the cycle and run/walk starts at 10.30amat the Kilkee Bay Hotel. A post event BBQ will be served to participants at the Kilkee Bay Hotel that afternoon and evening.
