Kilmallock Tidy Towns has been announced as the top award winners at the 2025 Limerick Going for Gold awards, receiving a €10,000 prize!

Limerick Going For Gold Awards has recognised the efforts of Kilmallock Tidy Towns, announcing the group as the winners of this year’s top award, recognising their efforts to enhance the Limerick town and promote community spirit, earning them the top prize of €10,000.
True community spirit was on display at the awards ceremony held at Castletroy Park Hotel on Thursday, October 23, when community groups from across Limerick City and County celebrated their efforts to create a better Limerick, bringing the county’s best 11 groups together for the awards final.
This year, over €70,000 in prizes were awarded to communities across Limerick who are actively promoting the circular economy, reducing waste, enhancing biodiversity, and creating cleaner, greener, and more sustainable places to live, work, and visit.
Kilmallock were announced overall winners at the event, which saw hundreds come together at the Limerick hotel as community groups earned part of the €70,000 prize fund from a range of categories.
The competition celebrates community achievement, volunteerism, and environmental innovation, with categories including Tidy Towns, Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom, Residential Areas and Sustainability, Waste Prevention & Community Engagement (formerly the Reuse Award) and the Endeavour Award for the most improved entrant in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
Among the winning groups were Bruff Tidy Towns, who won the Judge’s Choice Award, while Kilmeedy and Hospital Tidy Towns shared the Sustainability Award, each receiving €3,000. The Endeavour Award went to Granagh Development Association for their engagement with local authority water initiatives, while Meadowbrook Residents Group in Corbally claimed the title of Best Residential Area. Kildimo and Effin Tidy Towns were jointly named Best New Entrants.

Joe Cleary of Mr Binman, told I Love Limerick, “ We’re here at the Limerick Going for Gold Awards at the Castletroy Park Hotel. It shows Limerick at its best, and we are delighted to be some small part of it. We’d like to congratulate everyone who got to be in the finals and all the communities involved across Limerick City and County, and well done to all the winners!”
Six wildcard groups were also recognised for their efforts during the judging process, with Croagh, Galbally, Garrienderk, Glin, Kilfinane, and Templeglantine all joining the public vote winners: Castleconnell, Kilmallock, Kilmeedy, Athea, and Bulgaden.
Helen O’Donnell, representing the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, congratulated all participants and emphasised the importance of sustaining volunteerism ahead of major upcoming events such as the 2027 Ryder Cup and Limerick’s 2028 international festivals.

Helen told I Love Limerick, “ It’s been another really exciting time when all of the communities around Limerick participate in Going for Gold 2025. The really nice thing about being here is that it’s a community, it’s people working together, working hand in hand with the local authority, it’s about people really working together to bring the best out in their community and to have the place tidy and clean going forward.”
Helen put out a call for more groups to get involved, saying, “We want more and more people to participate in Going For Gold. It’s an opportunity for your community, for any small group of people, for your a residents’ association for your street, particularly in the city, we’d love to see more people entering Going for Gold. This year, people who’ve never won a prize came out on top, so it’s really, really exciting.”
Now in its 15th year, Limerick Going for Gold continues to inspire civic pride and environmental responsibility. The initiative is funded by Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) in partnership with the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, and supported by Live95, The Limerick Leader, The Limerick Post, I Love Limerick, and Southern Marketing Design & Media.
