KRYLA set to soar at 2025 Light Moves Festival
KRYLA, a powerful Ukrainian dance film by Limerick-based creatives, is set to gain its ‘wings’ at the 2025 Light Moves Festival on Saturday, November 8

KRYLA (Wings) has been selected for a screening at the 2025 Light Moves Festival, marking a special milestone for Limerick-based creatives, with much of the project created locally.
Directed and choreographed by Anastasiia Lapko with sound by Roman Vyshyvanov, KRYLA, is inspired by the strength of the human spirit, with much of the filming created in the harsh and beautiful Burren landscape.
The name “KRYLA ” (eng. Wings) was chosen because it is the original title of a poem by Lina Kostenko, a Ukrainian poet; the film includes a reading of the poem by Ukrainian actor Bohdan Stupka and has experienced virality online, often used by Ukrainian creators.
Speaking about the project, Anastasiia said, “This is a poem about the strength of spirit, dreams, and the fact that humans also have wings, they just look a little different. This audio is by Roman Vyshyvanov, Ukrainian composer. This is his first music track.
“He asked me to make a video of me dancing to this track, and he would draw something in 3D, because he’s also a 3D artist. He offered to donate for it, because at the time I was dancing for donations on Instagram to help my friend in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. When I heard that awesome music, I offered to make a music video for him. But the condition was that he didn’t stop writing music, because he’s a very talented composer.”
Filming saw the collaboration between Anastasiia and Ireland-based Konstantin Antipenko from Ukraine and Fady Imad El Haj from Paraguay. Exterior filming was made by Kosta with Fady shooting in the studio.

In a true collaboration between artists, the costume mask was made by the talented Danique Waarle from the Netherlands, with a sweater styled by Anastasiia.
Speaking about the opportunity, Anastasiia said, “The dance was staged for years, and I am incredibly grateful to Dance Limerick for the space. And Southern Media Studio for their technical support.
“The fact that we were selected for Light Moves Festival is an honour and a special joy for me, because they take place in Dance Limerick, which has become home for me. I have long wanted to get to this festival, but unfortunately, I missed it last time. I am very happy to join this time, they do an incredible job!”
KRYLA has experience festival joy in the past, with Anastasiia saying, “At the festival level in general, this work is the most successful of all that we have done, we were selected at about 16 festivals around the world, and won the Award for Best Music Video at the Film Arts and Hearts Film Festival in California.”
Light Moves, running from November 6 to 8, presents vibrant experiences bridging dance, new media and screen-based practices that reward and stimulate audiences and artists.
