Lady Mucks with DIY Hats Limerick’s hottest new shop opened by dynamic sister duo

Limerick sisters Sheila O Driscoll and Ursula Looby left their office jobs as accountants to follow their dreams of opening a boutique this year. Having practiced as accountants for twenty years the girls stumbled upon the idea to pack it in when they realised they could take Ursula’s millinery hobby and Sheila’s passion for fashion to a new level. Sheila explained: “I always wanted to have a boutique, if anyone asked me if I won money what would I do, I’d say I would open a boutique, I love clothes and fashion!”

Now based on 84 O’Connell Street, Limerick City, Lady Mucks with DIY hats caters for all occasion wear from red carpet events to debs, race days, mother of the bride and everything in between. Not only do Lady Mucks stock dresses for both sale and to hire, they can kit you out from head to toe with all of your accessories too.
Ursula or Sheila are always on hand in the store to plan your outfit with you, including handbags, their custom made jewellery and of course their fabulous DIY hats.

The hats are DIY because Lady Mucks sells all of the individual pieces to make a millinery style hat from scratch yourself, Ursula explains: “If you are any way creative you can come in and buy all of the different pieces the base, the netting, the feathers, the flowers, the broach, you can glue it or sew it together. It is around 25 to 30 euros. Or you can come in and tell us what you want and we can make it and you can hire it for 35 euro.”

Ursula and Sheila have created their own synch clip: “We recently created a synch clip which is something that we had seen years ago and just got creative with one day as a handy tool for women. We come in everyday and think what could we do, we are trying to be creative. I am a nine, an eight is too tight and a ten is too big but with the synch clip I can make clothes comfortable and if you have a big dinner you can open it again!”

As business women Ursula and Sheila have joined the #GirlBoss movement that has taken over the business world. They give their advice about the pros and cons of setting up your own business in 2015: “The hardest part was setting up the actual shop, kitting it out with the walls and even to date getting the layout of the shop right is difficult. Ursula and I are different I think the shop looks fine I am so happy to be in here during the day I don’t notice things like that! The best part is that you can come and go as you please, you don’t have to answer to anyone and if you want to do something you can just go and do it, you don’t have to ask anyone’s permission! The thing about having your own business is that you can work as hard as you want or you can be as lazy as you want, we want to be huge!”
Ursula and Sheila added: “If you have the passion for it go for it. Get advice and make sure you have the capital to invest at the beginning.”
