Encouraged by Christ Church, Limerick and Methodist Home Mission, Central Buildings Community Project is a volunteer run non-profit initiative set up to provide a space at an affordable rate for organisations, projects and people for cultural events that might not normally have the opportunity to take place.  Recently the building was painted by Limerick Tidy Towns committee in the colours of Limerick City of Culture and it looks beautiful. Central Buildings received funding from the Made in Limerick project to make the building a networking and cultural hub for 2014 and beyond. Currently they are home to an Occupy Space exhibition ‘Scratching the Surface’, the Music Generation Project, the Honest Arts Production Company and the organisation Doras Luimni who fight for migrant rights. Christ Church United Presbyterian and Methodist Church have its service every Sunday at 11.30am and there is a Sunday School during the morning service for children of National School Age. There is also a Youth Department with a Youth Group and a music group practice on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month led by Christ Church’s Youth Leader Anna-Victoria Lynch. In March and April the building will be hosting the City of Churches Exhibition and Genealogy Day. Last Saturday was the official launch of the building and it was a very special day with lots of music and fun. Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
