‘Sea Legs’ is the intimate and introspective debut album from Limerick singer-songwriter, Laura Duff

‘Sea Legs’ is the intimate and introspective debut album from Limerick singer-songwriter, Laura Duff, described as a visceral body of work that illuminates the Limerick-based artist’s deft and detailed songwriting; the album will be available from Friday, May 23.

Drawing from experiences of grief, Duff explores the potency of places and exchanges with people while processing her father’s death, with the artist explaining, “I was setting out to write Sea Legs in my Dad’s memory.”

“It was very intentional in that way. All of the lyrical context is based around that, and his life, as well as trying to maintain some level of communication. ‘Sea Legs’ is inspired by my experience of navigating everything that comes with losing a parent; dealing with grief as time passes, family relationships and the physicality of death.”
As well as being a celebration of people in Duff’s life, ‘Sea Legs’ chronicles her love for the places that bring colour and life into treasured memories spent by the water. In between, are tangible everyday vignettes such as going for an evening pint, or a book sitting on a shelf waiting to be read, intricately woven into the lyrics. These unvarnished details are elemental to Duff’s astute lyricism across ‘Sea Legs’, making it a beautifully raw and affecting artistic statement.

Collaborating extensively with her esteemed band featuring JJ Lee (bass), Christopher O’Sullivan (drums) and Mícheál Keating (guitar), they have truly found their sound on Sea Legs, drawing from influences such as Big Thief, Ben Howard and Daughter, to create their own enveloping strand of folk inflected rock arrangements.

The album will be released on Friday, May 23 and will be available to purchase online and will be available to listen to on streaming services.
