A friend of boxer Lee Reeves has given an update on the Limerick man’s recovery following surgery this week, saying the operation “ gives him another step now to move forward to his rehabilitation”.

The update comes as Lee has been in hospital since sustaining a serious injury during his fight at the 3Arena on August 1. As the Roxborough man recovers, the people of Limerick have come together to help raise funds for him and his family, with Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention creating the “Limerick for Lee” group to help gain as much support as possible.

Giving an update on Lee’s recovery, his friend Jonathan O’Brien said on Instagram, “ Lee has come out of surgery. He’s in the ICU now; everything’s okay so far. So keep the fingers crossed.

“The power of prayers has been amazing; he’s got this operation, and it gives him another step now to move forward to his rehabilitation. This is gonna take a while. It could take weeks before he comes around at all, we’re expecting all this.

“Lee will need a miracle. We all know that, so keep praying. I’m begging you all, keep praying every day for Lee Reeves! This kid deserves medals; he’s a fighter. He’s fighting every single day through this. This is the biggest fight of his life.”

This weekend sees two events raise funds for the boxer, with a 5k for Lee taking place on Saturday, October 3, with organisers encouraging the community to come together and show their support.

The group of runners/walkers of all abilities are invited to meet at Conlan’s Mini Limerick at 10:15 AM, with the organisers saying, “Save the date and make yourself available because on Saturday, October 3, the great man that is Lee Reeves needs our support.”

On Sunday, October 4, Southside Boxing Academy and Treaty Boxing Club will host a fundraising boxing show at Southside Boxing Academy in Galvone Industrial Estate beginning at 3 pm.

Cork boxer Tom Hyde shared details of the event, saying, “Lee has spent years helping others, supporting people through some of their darkest times and giving so much back to his community. Now it’s time to give back to Lee.”

The event begins at 3 pm, with tickets costing €20 for adults and €10 for children.

Donations to Lee’s overall fundraiser can be made through GoFundMe, which has seen incredible support, with more than €117 thousand raised since being set up.
