Leyendas de México, a vibrant dance gala celebrating Mexico’s cultural heritage, comes to the Hunt Museum on Sunday, November 10 bringing a display of Mexican folklore through traditional dance performances.
“Leyendas de México: A Journey through the Hearts of Mexican Women in Ireland” is a culturally significant project that aims to celebrate the Mexican diaspora in Ireland through the art of dance. Rooted in research, authentic storytelling, and the fusion of artistic excellence, this project sheds light on the experiences of Mexican women living in Ireland, delving into their migration journeys, worldviews, and traditions.
Folk dancer, Yovanna Torres, explained, “This gala will feature performances that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Mexico, with a particular focus on the stories of Mexican women in Ireland. We are also honoured to have the Mexican Embassy in attendance, which will make the event even more special.”
The event hopes to celebrate Ireland’s Mexican diaspora through dance and storytelling with community engagement being a key ambition for the organisers. This free event aims to bring together a diverse community of artists who share a passion for preserving and celebrating Mexican culture. By engaging the local Irish and Mexican communities, “Leyendas de México” bridges cultural gaps and fosters unity and understanding.
Although the event is free, donations are welcome on the day with the funds raised going to the production of similar events in the future celebrating Mexican culture in Ireland.
