Young Limerick podcast sensation Padraig “Paudie” O’Callaghan recently enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience after being invited by Celtic FC to travel to Glasgow and interview Republic of Ireland and Celtic defender Liam Scales.
The special invitation came on the back of Paudie’s memorable appearance on RTÉ’s Total Football last year, where his passion for football and engaging personality won over viewers across the country.
Accompanied by his father Brian, Paudie made the trip to Scotland, where they were joined by Paudie’s grandfather Willie before heading to Celtic FC’s training ground. There, Paudie sat down for an exclusive interview with Liam Scales and even enjoyed a kickabout with the Irish international.
“It was amazing to meet Liam and see where Celtic train every day,” said Limerickperson of the Year 2021, Paudie. “He was really friendly and gave me great answers during the interview. Getting to play football with him was something I’ll never forget. It was the best day ever.”

Following the interview, Paudie and his family were treated to a private tour of the world-famous Celtic Park. The tour included behind-the-scenes access to the stadium, the club’s trophy room and the dressing rooms, giving the young football fan an unforgettable insight into one of Europe’s most iconic football clubs.
A Total Football camera crew accompanied Paudie throughout the trip, capturing every moment of the adventure for viewers at home.
Football fans can watch Paudie’s exclusive interview with Liam Scales and follow his Celtic FC experience on this Thursday’s edition of Total Football on RTÉ2, airing on Thursday, 18 June at 3:20pm, just before World Cup coverage begins.
The feature promises to be a heartwarming and inspiring story of a young football enthusiast whose love of the game continues to create extraordinary opportunities, and continues to burst perceptions with his ethos of ‘Disability should not mean inability!’
Paudie achievements include winning Limerick Person of the Year for 2021 and winning a LIFT Ireland award in the category for ‘Positive Attitude’, also in 2021.
