Light Up Limerick 2025 was a resounding success as the charity truck, tractor and vintage car run saw their incredible effort raise vital funds the East Limerick Red Cross.

Despite a weather warning in place, volunteers and supporters braved the rain to come out in force for Light up Limerick 2025, which followed a route from Northern Trust before making its way to the west side of Limerick City and looping back to the starting point.

More than 100 cars, trucks, and tractors took to Limerick City’s streets, and the event has been heralded as a success thanks to the community, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make the event such a memorable night.

John Collins, Irish Red Cross, East Limerick branch, said, “Our Christmas Blue Light Run was a fantastic success, thanks to the wonderful support of the people of Limerick. Sincere thanks to all those who jazzed up their vehicles and took part, and to all the spectators and supporters who came out in force despite the rain.

“We’ve raised valuable funds which will help us to support our local community during 2026, providing first aid medical services at events, matches and festivals throughout the year. The success of the event is also thanks to the support of An Garda Síochána Limerick and our bike and foot marshals who kept everything running smoothly.”

Following the event, East Limerick Red Cross said, “What an incredible night and what an incredible community. A massive thank you to everyone involved in making Light Up Limerick 2025 such a huge success. Events like this don’t happen without a serious team effort. To our Marshals, Bike Marshals, An Garda Síochána Limerick and Security – thank you for keeping everything safe and helping the event run so smoothly. Thank you to Mayor John Moran, Cllr Martin Ryan and Cllr Dan McSweeney, Richard O’Donoghue TD, Maurice Quinlivan along with Limerick City & County Council, for your support. Christmas in Limerick.”

The organisers pointed out the effort made by all of the entrants whose “festive displays were absolutely top class and really brought the magic to the city”, as they highlighted the effort made in preparing their vehicles for the run.

They highlighted the support from their colleagues and the wider community, saying, “To our Irish Red Cross colleagues and all Emergency & Voluntary Services who took part – it was great to catch up and thank you for taking part once again. Behind the scenes heroes – thank you to everyone who supplied portaloos, stickers, equipment, Screen truck and most importantly, your time. None of this happens without you.”

And as always, a big thank you to our fantastic Irish Red Cross volunteers who go above and beyond for their community day in, day out – they embody the spirit of giving every day, not just at Christmas.”

They concluded, “And finally, thank you to the spectators who braved the weather. The crowds were massive and the atmosphere was unreal. We set out to Light Up Limerick -and we absolutely did that!”

Limerick County will also see the return of the Light up Sky event for 2025, where on December 27 in Castlemahon at 3pm tractors, cars, and trucks will parade through the roadsin support of West Limerick Red Cross and The Brothers of Charity Services, West Limerick.

The organisers said, “The Brothers of Charity Services support people with intellectual disabilities in Ireland. They provide care, support and empowerment, helping them live full and independent lives in their local community.

“The West Limerick Red Cross provides emergency relief, health services, first aid training, and assistance to vulnerable people throughout the country. We are extremely lucky to have both services available to us here in West Limerick! Be sure to join us on December 27th at 3pm in Castlemahon Village to support these very worthy charities.”
