Limerick, October 2014, Carers and Caring will hit the spotlight in Limerick in November as Amalgamotion, the Limerick based theatre company, offer up their new production ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’ for audiences. The play, written by Ella Daly, directed by Ciarda Tobin and with the dramturgical support of Helena Enright promises to be a close look at the role of family and community caregivers and the challenges that face them. With the support of Limerick City of Culture, this is the third production that both Ciarda and Helena have been involved in this year in Limerick. Following the success of The Tain and The River, The

Lighthouse Keeper will unveil the nuances and comedic moments of caring for a loved one.

The Lighthouse Keeper chronicles that moment in time when life comes full circle and the parent who cared for and nurtured you in infancy needs care and nurturing in old age. The baton is passed and you become the lighthouse keeper.

Starring Aidan Crowe, Georgina Miller, Monica Spencer and Joanne Ryan, the play opens on November 12th at Dance Limerick Space, in St Johns Church, St Johns Square in Limerick. There are both evening and matinee performances. Lighting and set design is by Sarah Jane Shiels.

‘We are delighted to bring this production to the stage. The subject matter is not only close to my heart but one that is very much at the centre of houses all over Ireland as family caregivers and carers struggle daily to help their loved ones. It will hopefully raise awareness of the difficulties faced by carers as well as the great joy that caring for a loved one brings and will shine a light on the lighthouse keepers who steer us all safely home,” said playwright Ella Daly as rehearsals began in Limerick this week.

‘We really hope that this play will draw in audiences and give them an entertaining, thought provoking and life reaffirming experience,” concluded Daly.
