What can we expect from Limerick actor Peter Halpin in 2017 as we look back on the actor’s decorated yet youthful career so far with notable appearances in ‘Angela’s Ashes’, ‘Breakfast on Pluto’ and his recent short film ‘Narcan’ which has no doubt boosted the young actors profile, potentially opening several exciting projects for him entering the new year.

Peter Halpin, a Limerick Born and bred actor is making waves in the acting world after his recently break with his short film ‘Narcan’ shot in New York alongside a Limerick crew and Limerick director Peter McNamara. Halpin’s name may not be in flashing lights just yet but the young charismatic actor is destined for great things but what exactly is next for the talented actor?

As a boy raised in Mungret, Limerick he discovered his passion early in life and went on to join a local theatre school called the Spotlight Stage School. His raw talent was recognised at the tender age of 15 as he continued to secure prominent roles in each of the school’s annual shows. Halpin’s first big break came when Ros Hubbard made an appearance at his acting school seeking young talent to embody the character Malachy McCourt in the film Angela’s Ashes. The Irish actor was offered the part in Alan Parker’s critically acclaimed film.

Like a rolling stone in the snow, Halpin’s career has been continuously moving forward since then and with that collecting knowledge, skills and awards. His critically acclaimed short film ‘Narcan’ was a credit to the actor’s work as he leads the cast with the prominent role of Sean Ryan, an Irish paramedic on the mean streets of the Big Apple struggling to deal with a fragmented personal life as well as the death and depravity of the city streets. The film took nearly a year to conceive yet only a week of shooting, following its release on the February 1 the production was not only a selection at a number of festivals, including the Chelsea Film Festival, Waterford Film Festival and Irish Screen America, it also managed to take home some hardware. The piece won Best Narrative Short at the New York Metropolitan Film Festival, with Peter taking home the best actor award at the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival.

The film has been so well received that is being optioned into a feature film, to be shot in New York next year. Halpin has a number of projects coming up in the next year, and not all of them are in front of the camera.

“I’ve just set up my own production company that’ll help me to really work better both in front of and behind the camera and I’ll be moving forward with that. We’re very excited to shoot ‘Narcan’ the feature this year and overall I’ve been quite busy.  I’ve been doing lots of readings, which is a staple for any actor in New York. Between the film, other projects I’m working on, the stage and screen, it really seems that 2017 is going to be a manic year for me.”

Undoubtedly 2017 is going to be a big year for the limerick actor Peter Halpin with not only plans to move behind the camera but also won’t be leaving our screens anytime soon as he has a plans to appear in ‘The Resurrection Love Song’. The film is set in Galway Ireland, is about Victor played by Limerick actor Peter Halpin and his flawed body, the body of Christ, Catholicism, perfection and imperfection, rigidity, revenge, violence and self-sacrifice, unity consciousness and the beauty of the natural and physical world that overwhelms Victor.

He credits his new lease of life as an actor to his decision to moving to New York. “The thing I love about this city is that you can really accomplish anything if you put forth your best effort. There’s a place for everyone,” Halpin said. “I’ve been acting for a long time, but New York has exposed me to new viewpoints and performers that have made me so much more well-rounded. I’m grateful for that. Also, there’s something about that attitude of hard work that really goes a long way here.”
