Limerick Animal Welfare (LAW) has issued an appeal for financial support to help address the increase in veterinary expenses and abandoned animals taken into the organisation’s care this year.

LAW’s vet bills have surpassed €100,000 in just the first six months of the year, and the group need to urgently raise €30,000 to help with the rising caring costs.

The Limerick-based animal shelter has experienced a significant increase in abandoned dogs, with more than 100 puppies rescued since Christmas. As kitten season begins, the group has issued an appeal for funds through their social media platforms as they expect the influx of animals in need to increase.

Several heart-wrenching cases highlighted by LAW has shown the severity of the situation they noted Bambi, along with six siblings, who was cruelly thrown over a wall; Maggie was discovered starved and neglected; Ollie, purchased as a puppy, was left outside without shelter or adequate food; Patricia, along with her five puppies, was abandoned when her owners moved away; and Misty and Jake were found alone in an apartment.

The shelter has also taken in numerous mother dogs with their litters, including Missy with nine puppies, Xena with ten, Isobella with six, Pippa with seven, and Kelly with nine with these cases just an example of the countless animals who are in need of assistance.

A Limerick Animal Welfare representative explained it is “increasing cost of living and increasing veterinary costs” as well as the number of animals coming into LAW’s care which are impacting the operation costs. They said, “The sanctuary needs €80,000 per month to run, and we depend on donations to keep going.”

Limerick Animal Welfare is calling on the community for donations to help cover veterinary expenses and ensure these animals receive the care they deserve. Contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of these abandoned and neglected pets.
