Limerick Animal Welfare
Limerick Animal Welfare, LAW, is a registered charity, founded in 1983, dedicated to care for abandoned and neglected animals in the Limerick area. They have a strict no-kill policy unless the animal is severely ill and its suffering cannot be eased by other means. The animals remain in their care until they find the best homes for them and it is their policy to spay/neuter dogs and cats before rehoming them. At any one time Law care for approximately 60 dogs and 390 cats.
Over the last five years alone they have saved more over 2000 animals. Their aim is to promote a more humane treatment of animals, working towards a more compassionate society. They believe in teaching people on the importance of caring for their pets and the responsibilities of owning a pet. They regularly give talks to primary and secondary schools in order to educate and inform them.
As Limerick Animal Welfare is a charity, they rely heavily on donations from the public. Running costs amount to over 30,000 euro per month. This takes constant fundraising to rescue the countless animals that need their help. Some of their past fundraisers have included raffles, coffee mornings, a fashion show, a sponsored parachute jump, sponsored cycle, an auction and a fundraising BBQ. They also have regular fundraising events throughout the year, including our Doggy Day, Christmas Swim, Open Day, sponsored Dog Walk, street collections, supermarket bag-packing dates and churchgate collections.
