Limerick Arts and Cultural Exchange coordinate Cultural Strategy for Limerick.

The Limerick Arts and Cultural Exchange (L.A.C.E) Coordinating Committee had a meeting to speak about 2016 at the Central Buildings on O’Connell Street. High on the agenda for the meeting was how to further Limerick’s cultural sector, starting with the development of a Cultural Strategy for Limerick.

The Cultural Strategy will set out a vision for the future of arts and culture in Limerick, and aims to support and foster growth in the cultural sector. Gerard Keenan, Co-Chair L.A.C.E Coordinating Committee commented “I am delighted to be a member of L.A.C.E and honoured to have been selected as Co-Chair. I will strive to make it a relevant arts organisation in Limerick as I have always had a strong belief that co-operation with all arts organisations is the way forward, and I hope I have demonstrated that belief in practical terms with my many collaborations here in my role with the Irish Chamber Orchestra. I hope to see L.A.C.E become one of the key influencers for the betterment of all arts practitioners and an active campaigner for better funding for the arts.”

A representative body that works to develop, support and advocate for the cultural sector and communities of Limerick, L.A.C.E was born from the Pillar system that supported Limerick City of Culture 2014. L.A.C.E is comprised of a number of strands including Film, Literature & Writing, Music, History & Heritage, Dance, Craft & Food, Theatre, Visual Art, Community and Venues & Institutions.

Eleanor McSherry, Co-Chair L.A.C.E Coordinating Committee explains “The Limerick Arts and Culture Exchange is a unique entity in the Irish Arts and Cultural landscape. L.A.C.E represents thousands of members that are involved in these areas. I’m delighted and proud that we came up with this type of organisation first in Limerick. All our members want what’s best for Limerick and feel invested in our city and county. In my tenure as Co-Chair with Gerard Keenan, I am looking forward to working with other City and County organisations to the betterment of not only our members but all involved in arts and culture in Limerick and of course the general public. Having been involved in this organisation since 2013, I am looking forward to seeing it grow.”

Membership of L.A.C.E. is open to anyone living in Limerick and the Midwest region who are involved in the cultural life of Limerick. It is open those who have specific interests in or are delivering activities affecting the limerick region.
