Limerick Autism Camp looking for volunteers for Halloween camp

Following on from the success of a camp dedicated to children with Autism, Limerick Autism Camp will be running a special Halloween Camp from October 31st until November 2nd, from 11 am to 2 pm at The Factory, Southside Youth Space, Galvone Industrial Estate.

Limerick Autism Camp is currently looking for volunteers to help with the running of the Halloween camp. Volunteering offers you the opportunity to meet their autism community and to share your skills and interests in facilitating kids with autism to access and enjoy the camps.

The time commitment for volunteering at the camp is as follows:  11am-2pm, Tuesday 31st October – Thursday 2nd November inclusive (any day, every day, an hour where you can? All welcome!!) Each volunteer will need proof of up to date Garda Vetting.

The camp was set up by parents who all have children who are on the Autism spectrum. The summer camp featured activities such as sport, cooking, music therapy, boxing, martial arts among many others.

The aim is to run a camp during times when schools are on a break like Halloween, Christmas and Summer holidays for children on the spectrum. One of the parents running the camp, Caroline Hogan spoke to ilovelimerick about why they set up the camp “We wanted to provide all children with a safe and secure environment where they can be themselves, free from discrimination and judgement and just have fun!”.

The Halloween camp will feature activities such as sports, arts and crafts, music along with a few treats and surprises. The Bumbalance, a special ambulance dedicated to children, will also be at the camp and features sensory features. There will be a sensory room set up at the camp so that if a child needs a break they can go to the sensory room.

The price of the camp is €25 per family, siblings will not be allowed to attend the camp however if you have more than one child on the spectrum in your family the fee is €25 per family. All parents are asked to stay with their children who are attending the camp, they are encouraged to get involved and to network with other parents at the camp. The age range for children attending the camp is between 2 and a half and 15 years old.
