Five-piece alternative/indie rock Limerick band, Puppet, sees debut show tickets sell out in under four days
On Friday, August 28th, Puppets will be playing their debut show in The Record Room underneath The Commercial on Catherine Street. The band has seen amazing support, with general admission tickets selling out in less than four days.
Puppets are a five-piece alternative/indie rock band from Limerick, Ireland. Blending guitar-driven rock with influences spanning multiple generations, the band draws inspiration from artists such as Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, The Strokes, and Geese. Their sound combines classic rock foundations with J-rock-inspired guitar work, blues and jazz elements, and an energetic, unpredictable rhythmic approach.
Frontman Joshua Cottingham draws lyrical inspiration from celebrated writers and songwriters including Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and James Joyce, bringing a poetic edge to the band’s songwriting. Meanwhile, Filipino guitarist JC Cusipag channels influence from both Western rock and East Asian music, helping shape the band’s distinctive musical identity.

United by a diverse range of backgrounds and influences, Puppets fuse tradition with experimentation, creating music that is both familiar and forward-looking. With a refusal to conform and a drive to leave a lasting mark, Puppets seek to carve out their own place within the new generation of rock music.
Formed in Limerick City, Puppets brings together five musicians whose backgrounds span three continents, giving the band a perspective as diverse as its sound.
Frontman Joshua Cottingham was born in Bristol to English and Irish parents before moving to Ireland at a young age. Bassist Taylor Ford relocated from Newark, New Jersey to study music in Ireland, while guitarist JC Cusipag, the son of Filipino immigrants, grew up balancing the influences of his family’s heritage with life in Ireland. Guitarist Liam Donohue and drummer Diarmuid Farrell were both born and raised in Ireland, developing a lifelong passion for music from an early age.
Joshua and JC first met as young teens at school, bonding over Green Day and a shared love of art. They started making music together, building chemistry and shaping what would become the foundation of Puppets. After graduating, they crossed paths with Taylor, Liam, and Diarmuid while studying music at university. Drawn together by similar musical tastes and an ambition to create something distinctive, the five quickly formed Puppets.
Since then, the band has continued to refine its identity, blending the different musical and cultural influences each member brings into a sound that is uniquely their own.
Doors for the band’s debut show open at 7pm with Puppets taking to the stage at around 9pm.
