A general knowledge table quiz was held on Tuesday 7th March at 8pm at Fennessys Pub on New St., Limerick to raise funds for Limerick Bastille Day.

The event was to raise awareness of and fundraise for the festival, with the quizmaster on the night being well-known historian and archivist, Dr Paul O Brien.

Quiz topics included a few Franco-Irish questions for the crowd, however, the quiz was mainly general knowledge, and the guillotine was only threatened twice on quizzers!

The festival which is organised by Alliance Française Limerick and a dedicated team of volunteers will this year feature a banquet on the theme ‘Food as Art’ on Saturday 15th July and a range of other events including a parade, a concert and a very special film screening on Sunday 16th of July at St Mary’s Cathedral. The full programme is yet to be finalised and will be announced in the coming months.

The festival celebrates the strong shared history between Limerick and France, notably marked by the Flight of the Wild Geese, in 1691, when Sarsfield and thousands of Irish Jacobite soldiers and their families left for France following the Treaty of Limerick.

The festival endeavours to educate about local history and foster cultural relations between modern-day Limerick and modern-day France.
