Limerick Chamber announced on International Women’s day its new incoming president would be Miriam O Connor

Limerick Chamber has announced a newly elected President to lead the Mid-West’s largest business representative body, Miriam O’Connor, who has pledged to tirelessly pursue business community interests across local and national forums during her term in office.

Ms O’Connor said she is “honoured and excited” to be taking on the role and “placing member issues and member supports in the centre of my duties as President this year”.

“I will build upon the great work of outgoing President Donal Cantillon and the strong foundations of the Chamber in relevant member briefings and events,” she said, adding, “2023 will see a very diverse training offering from our Skillnet network, and of course, I will be driving a number of key policy objectives identified by Limerick Chamber on vital issues such as affordable housing, infrastructural development and wider challenges of recruitment and retention of skilled workers in the Mid-West region.”

Miriam O’Connor is due to make her first formal address as President of Limerick Chamber at an Economic Briefing event taking place on the 23rd of  March, featuring presentations by Carl Tannenbaum, Chief Economist with Northern Trust, and Seán Golden, Limerick Chamber Chief Economist.  

Welcoming the incoming President, Chamber Chief Executive Dee Ryan said: “We are thrilled to have Miriam on board as our president for 2023-2024. Miriam has a focus on key areas which will no doubt have a lasting impact for the business community in the Mid-West Region. With Miriam’s guidance, l have no doubt we will have a busy but progressive year. Miriam will play a crucial role in supporting Limerick Chamber’s work as the voice of business for the Midwest. The team at Limerick Chamber and I look forward to working with her over the next year to best serve our members and the key challenges they face daily.”

Ms Ryan added, “I wish to extend my thanks to outgoing Limerick Chamber President, Donal Cantillon, Director Focus Capital, for his tireless work and dedication to Limerick business over the past 12 months. Also, congratulations to Noel Gavin, Senior Vice President: Asset Servicing Global Learning with Northern Trust, who has become Vice President”.

“Finally, we are pleased to welcome to the board Damien Garrihy-AIB, Business Banking Clare & Limerick, Leanne Storan, Partner Tax and Law -EY, Lisa Killeen, Partner-HOLMES LLP, and Muriel Kelly, HR Director- Edwards Lifesciences IRL all of whom were successfully returned in our recent Board member elections.”

Commenting on the hotly contested Board election, President Miriam O’Connor said, “I’m very happy to welcome newly elected and returning Directors back to the table for this new Board year. All are highly skilled and experienced in their respective areas and industries and are important assets to the Chamber Board at a critical juncture in the development for the Mid-West.”
