NOVAS and the Children’s Grief Centre have announced that they have both received an award from the third annual AIB Community €1 Million Fund, to help with their work in the Limerick community.

Over the last two years, the AIB Community €1 Million Fund has supported over 150 charities across Ireland. Earlier this year, AIB asked its customers, the wider public, and staff to again nominate registered charities, that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities, in the AIB Community €1 Million Fund.

To those charities chosen by the customers and wider public, AIB is allocating €700,000 across the four provinces and a separate category for charities in the greater Dublin area, while €300,000 will be donated to charities chosen by employees.

AIB is committed to connecting our customers with their local community groups. We have introduced, through our partnership with Payzone a new donation feature on our AIB Mobile app, enabling our customers to donate to their nominated charities directly on the app. The charities will be listed on the app for the year following nomination, before the following year’s nominated charities are listed instead.

Speaking about receipt of the award, Jackie Leonard of NOVAS said, “NOVAS is absolutely thrilled and very thankful to receive funds from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund. The funds will be used to develop a bespoke Lifeskills Programme for our clients and tenants who are or have experienced homelessness.

“The funding will also be directed to the NOVAS Street Outreach Programme which provides a humanitarian intervention to people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, living in squats, and those living on the margins of society in Limerick City. The service provides basic needs to people such as access to a hot meal, toiletries, first aid, warm clothing, sleeping bags, and staff and volunteers to talk to.”

Mairead O’Keeffe of the Children’s Grief Centre added, “On behalf of everyone at the Children’s Grief Centre, we would like to thank AIB for the funding we have received from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund. The funds we received from AIB will be used to fit out two rooms specifically catering to older teens as they have nothing at the moment designed for this age group. AIB’s support is crucial in helping us to continue our mission and make a difference to the children that use our service.”

Speaking about the Fund, AIB Managing Director Retail Banking Geraldine Casey said, “We are delighted once again this year to support over 70 charities through the AIB Community €1 Million Fund. AIB is deeply rooted in towns across the country and we are privileged to be able to provide much needed funding to those who are making such a powerful contribution to improving the lives of those who live in these communities. I would like to thank our customers and the public for taking the time to nominate these very worthy charities.’’
